VIRTUALIZATION

Virtualization has emerged as a buzz word in the IT world as companies look to save costs and maintain efficiency. Although virtualization technologies have matured, no two environments are the same and it’s important to design your virtualization plan accordingly. With compatibility and reliability top concerns among IT managers, a well considered virtualization project plan is important. At NIT we recommend that our clients do the following before getting started with virtualization:

  • Create an ROI analysis template and methodology
  • Verify application compatibility with virtualized environments
  • Provide a detailed inventory of applications and minimum hardware specifications before designing your plan for virtualization

NITConnect AUTOMATES HOSPITAL’S HR AND PAYROLL SYSTEMS

It is difficult to easily monitor or analyze workforce components, such as labor costs and pay scales without a comprehensive, centralized payroll and HR solution. With 1,450 staff members at Hoboken University Medical Center (HUMC), in different roles and pay scales, the hospital was in need of a new, sophisticated solution.

Having worked with NITConnect for the past three years on multiple projects, HUMC appointed the company’s engineers to breathe new life into outdated operations by converting its timekeeping process from a manual system to an automated, paperless system.

NITConnect implemented Kronos, a biometrics web-based technology, allowing multiple access points for employees and managers, reducing vast margin of error, and eliminating manual, time-consuming, and paper-based processes.

As a result of this project, NITConnect helped to streamline HUMC’s current process of collecting time and attendance information for the hospital’s staff, ultimately reducing cost, resources and manpower.

GREENING EFFECT FOR AN INSURANCE FIRM

Virtualization is no longer the technology world’s best kept secret. Reduction in cooling costs and consumption of less energy has attracted many organizations to this technology. Virtualization, a ‘green’ IT solution, has helped companies function more dynamically by consolidating several physical servers into a single, virtual environment.

For client, a provider of water pollution liability insurance for over 40,000 vessels operating in U.S. waters or traveling in international waters between U.S. ports., the benefits from virtualization solutions were obvious.

With the help of NITConnect, all of client current files and application servers will be moved into a new virtual environment, eliminating the cost of hardware for additional servers now that multiple applications will run on a single machine. Moving forward, client will reap the benefits of reduced down-time, increased productivity, minimal costs and measured success. Click below to learn how your company can too.

TIPS & BLIPS

IT SAVINGS IN A TIGHT ECONOMY

In order to weather this current economic storm, many businesses are implementing cost cutting strategies. In order to stay competitive consider these tips for maximizing the return on your IT investments:

  • Take a long, hard look at your server use to try to consolidate, resulting in improved performance and reduced cooling costs
  • Invest in more energy-efficient technologies to reduce power consumption and ultimately energy costs
  • Rely more on online documentation to reduce paper use and the power demands from printer usage
  • Implement a storage management application (SRM), to save storage and reduce additional server usage

“A customer’s upfront investment for more energy-efficient servers can typically be offset within months by the energy-cost savings.”
